Retail News in a Nutshell

The 2011 Holiday Season

It seems that "experts" don't believe the retail sector will produce more jobs for this year's holiday season. Even when it seems that consumers will spend more money than they did last year.

According to the article:

1) Two-thirds of companies will hire the same amount of workers as last year
2) 25% plan to hire fewer seasonal employees

Many retailers are trying to keep costs down, while others blame the rise in shopping online. The good news here is for those already working in retail. Instead of hiring more employees, employers plan on paying those that already work there more money to get through the holiday season.

Retail Jobs Database

On this website you can find where in the US retail jobs are booming. Apparently, Houston, Texas and Providence, Rhode Island have the highest growth in the sector for 2011 and have continued to add thousands of jobs since July. This database was created by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in conjunction with The Business Journal’s On Numbers, an online affiliate of American City Business Journals Inc.

This is, clearly, good news for those of you who live in the two areas above. However, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. So I say check out the database to locate the retail sector trends in your area. You may find a job that you are qualified to do that you would not have applied for before. Yet, those are the types of jobs your city needs.

Let me know the results after you check out the sites. Did they work for you?
