Director of Product Development

Lead the efforts of the Product Development teams. Develop resource models, set development commitments and the oversee execution to satisfy those commitments.

•Develop and manage department expense budgets and spending.
•Utilize resource planning tools, such as the engineering quota, to effectively allocate resources and achieve business plans.
•Oversee product development design standards and practices.
•Interact with the consultants/designing surgeons to define and validate design requirements.
•Interface with the other functional departments to ensure multifunctional teams effectively execute the NPD process.
•Manage the interface with the Quality Assurance function to analyze PER's and execute CAPA's.
•Participate with senior management to identify strategic opportunities and product line strategies.
•Coach, council and manage the development of team manager and employees; lead and participate in succession planning activities. Mentor Engineering leadership team.
•Develop and implement programs which further define project resource requirements and planning tools.
•Manage product development efforts in Domestic and International markets and across divisions to meet the corporation's strategic needs.
•Deliver new products to market on time and within project budgets

Qualifications/Work Experience

•10 years experience in product design within the medical device or a related industry
•Demonstrated expertise in the design of orthopaedic medical implants and instrumentation
•Demonstrated expertise in the function, clinical issues and performance requirements of orthopaedic implants
•Demonstrated ability to lead complex product development initiatives from concept development through market release
•Demonstrated expertise in design control with in a regulated industry
•Demonstrated interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
•Demonstrated ability to lead and manage professionals, including managers with direct reports; management of the team includes professional development, recruiting/staffing and team building

Education and/or Special Training

Bachelor's Degree in scientific field, preferably Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering. Prefer a Master's Degree or PhD in a related technical discipline
