Undergrad Intern - Quality

Amgen's Quality department in our Rhode Island location is looking for undergraduate students interested in 10 - 12 week internships for the following 3 internship opportunities:

1. Quality Administration Intern - An intern to be the primary developer of the work force planning (WFP) tool utilizing applications such as Excel and Sharepoint. They will be expected to understand major functions of a Quality organization (high level) and validate WFP data from each of the functional areas. The intern will then build financial business models in Excel and propose a process to maintain the models through evolving business needs.

2. Quality Systems Intern - An Intern to support the quality process maturity activities by ensuring all 56 processes have up-to-date documentation and maturity deliverables that reflects current practices as defined by plan. Review all process maturity deliverables with Process Owners to ensure documentation and practices are current. Support the implementation of the 2012 quality initiatives as identified in the annual quality plan. Support the maintenance of the Rhode Island Quality Risk register. Make recommendations for improvements as appropriate. Assist in supporting gap assessments needed for Operating Standards to ensure on-time implementation per procedure.

3. Quality Compliance Intern - An Intern to develop a SharePoint tool for cross-department (within Amgen RI) and cross-site (across other Amgen sites) use of key measures related to Inspection and Audit Readiness. Intern will be responsible for the following:
• Enhance recently implemented SharePoint site for tracking of all ARI site issue-items to expand the output benefit
• Develop database tool for tracking and easily retrievable searching for regulatory requirements (cross-jurisdictional)
• Develop tool with search functions for regulatory and audit observations and commitments
• Develop inspection prep. session schedule and tool that will be used for managing and measuring the new process (will be launched in 2012)
• Develop repository and retrieval tool for Compliance information for use by all ARI departments.

Basic Qualifications
Must be in the process of pursuing a Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering or Science discipline (biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, engineering or computer science)
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
• Must be 18 years or older;
• Must be a current full time student
• Must have completed at least one full year of study at the time of application;
• Must have not yet graduated;
• Must be in good academic standing within their majors and overall at their university;
• Must be enrolled in school the fall season following the potential internship or co-op assignment.
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
• Business finance
• Ability to adhere to regulatory requirements, written procedures and safety guidelines
• Strong proficiency in project management - ability to manage and/or lead projects as needed.
• Ability to communicate issues effectively.
• Good communication and technical writing skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Visio).
• Applicable knowledge and practical application experience with:
o SharePoint; Website design; database development; Report generation
• Fundamental understanding of performance measuring (goals, metrics, measures)
